aBIzu pragrahe raSmO puMsi kAmAnurAgayoH. Bharata and
Mathureśa on the Amarak. admit the form aBISu only for
the meaning ‘ray’ (in the classical dialect); Mallin. on the
Śiśupālab. 16. 51. however observes that all the words which
are given by the Koshas as ending in z, occur in the vaidic
and in the classical language with a final S: viSvaprakA-
SAdayaH sarve'pyaBiDAnikA mUrDanyAntezu ye lokavedayostAla-
vyAntA dfSyante. Comp. aBISu.) E. see aBISu, with z for
S; but the comm. on the Amarak. derive the word from
iz with aBi, kṛt aff. u; or aBi (= aBigata) and izu;
this E. is without any probability.
