Anogeissus latifolia Wall ex Guill &Perr

Morphology[edit | edit source]

A deciduous tree ca 25 m tall. Branchlets grey-pubescent. Leaves alternate, broadly elliptic, oblong or obovate-suborbicular, 5.5-10.5 x 4-6 cm, chartaceous, margin entire, obtuse-round at apex, round or cuneate at base; lateral nerves 7-11 paired, glabrous, rusty below, leafstalk ca 2 cm. Flowers yellow or pinkish yellow, ca 4 mm across, axillary, aggregated in cymose head, ca 1.5 cm; calyx-tube ca 3 mm, pubescent; lobes 5, triangular, ca 1.5 mm. Stamens 5+5, exserted. Style ca 1 mm, thickened at base, villous. Fruits clustered into a globose head, ca 1x1.5 cm, compressed, shining when ripe, 2-winged and ending in persistent calyx-tube. Seeds solitary.

Distribution[edit | edit source]

This species is distributed in Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka. It occurs in deciduous forests of south & central India, ascending up to 1500 m in sub-Himalayan and adjacent tracts from Punjab to Kumaon.
